Identification

One of the components of our proven process is a data map that shows, in detail, the sources and types of data, their location, and their appropriateness for any individual matter. We have deep experience identifying and collecting data in an enterprise infrastructure.

Across platforms and regardless of data type, we will locate both custodial and non-custodial data, and assist you in identifying whether it is relevant to your matter. Our process is proven in every type of enterprise infrastructure; structured and non-structured data, backups, network shares, email systems and archives, web sites, mobile devices, etc.

Preservation

In order to maintain maximum efficiency, we developed our own specialized software for this process. Discovery Agent™ is a combination of legal hold and workflow manager. It enables us to quickly and efficiently put custodians on alert of the legal hold, and then track everyone’s responses to those notices.

Users can, at a moment, see the status of every hold notice and the custodian’s acknowledgements. Discovery Agent requires no IT involvement and is vastly easier and more defensible than using spreadsheets to track preservation.

Collection

This is, by far, the most involved part of the Discovery process. Data can reside in myriad places, including laptops, desktops, servers, mobile devices, network shares, websites, and next week, who knows? Wherever it is, we’ll find it, we’ll get it, and we’ll maintain a record of it.

Digital Strata are experts at maintaining chains of custody by utilizing our Discovery Agent application. We provide forensic-grade services to go along with the most popular tools available; EnCase, FTK, F-Response, hardware write blockers and drive imagers.

Processing

We will work with whichever tool you already own for data processing, or we’ll collaborate with you to choose the right tool for your unique situation. We don’t charge by the gigabyte, but by the project; we work with you to ensure that the volumes of data generated by your Discovery is trimmed to just the essentials, without duplication, unneeded files (such as system files or family photos), or other “noise.”

We will ensure that your Discovery results in files that are critical and pertinent to your matter. We can process your data by keyword, date, or any other parameter that is relevant.
